Key features of our Marine Textiles
Our Glass Fabrics which have been approved for the marine industry, include Silicone Coated, PU Coated, Foil Laminated, Silica Wash Treated, and Wire Reinforced. Our marine textiles possess key characteristics that make them ideal for the marine sector. Our marine fabrics are:
- Durable – our products are built to withstand tough marine conditions such as saltwater exposure and weathering.
- Water Resistant – they provide different levels of water resistance or waterproofing to prevent moisture from getting in.
- Robust – wire reinforcement enhances the structural strength and stability of these textiles, making them suitable for demanding marine environments.
- Heat & Fire Resistant – some of these products, particularly those with foil lamination or silica wash treatment, may offer heat and flame resistance properties, providing added safety in marine settings.
IMO Approved Fabrics
THS responds to customer demand by testing fabrics for specific industries. Through an extensive product testing program, THS now has six fabrics that meet the rigorous requirements of IMO MSC 307(88): Annex 1:
- Part 5 – Surface flammability
- Part 2 – Smoke and toxicity
THS’s approved fabrics include:
- Single sided grey silicone coated glass cloth
- Double sided grey silicone coated glass cloth
- Wire reinforced glass loom state
- Aluminium foil faced glass cloth
- Silica wash treated glass cloth
- High performance PU coated, wire reinforced glass cloth

If the average Total Heat Release (Qt) is not more than 0.2MJ and the average Peak Heat Release Rate (Qp) is not more than 1.0kW, in accordance with Paragraph 2.7 of Annex 1 to IMO Resolution MSC 307(88): Annex 1: Part 5, it is considered that the specimens covered by the report comply with the requirements of Part 2 of Annex 1 ‘Smoke and Toxicity Test’ to IMO Resolution MSC 307(88): Annex 1: Part 2 without requiring to be tested.
