Wire Reinforced Cloth
Wire reinforced fabrics are innovative materials that combine traditional textiles with metal wires to enhance their mechanical properties. These fabrics find use in a wide range of applications thanks to their enhanced strength, durability, and resistance to deformation.
Wire Reinforced Glass Cloth
Temperature Resistance – 600°C
Wire reinforced glass cloth has one major benefit over standard woven glass cloth – strength, and particularly strength at increased temperatures.
These fabrics consist of normal glass fibre yarns twisted with wire – usually stainless-steel wire, and then woven on specially adapted looms. The resultant fabrics effectively have a fully integrated fine steel mesh.
Our wire reinforced glass fabrics can have wire/glass yarns in one direction or both directions, and be constructed from 100% wire/glass yarns or differing quantities of normal glass yarns and wire/glass yarns. Many different possibilities exist for wire and yarn combinations, with differing types of fibre, metal and diameters of wire.
The largest market for wire reinforced glass cloth is fire curtains and smoke curtains, as the stainless steel gives the fabrics the strength required to withstand conditions of 1000’c for up to 4+ hours. Other applications include high stress, flexible compensators within turbines and other demanding systems.
Wire reinforced glass cloth can be coated, dipped and laminated as per standard glass fabrics giving them a full range of additional characteristics.
Wire Reinforced Silica Cloth
Temperature Resistance – 1000°C
Silica fibres, unlike glass, will perform at 1000’c continuously (with marginal shrinkage, if not already pre-shrunk) the addition of wire to silica is to increase the mechanical strength and abrasion resistance, which was reduced through the acid leaching process of glass fibre.
Wire reinforced silica products are mainly used on elevated temperature jacket or exhaust systems, where vibration is present, as the wire increases the fabrics integrity and abrasion resistance.
